About
Helena Pernow (b.1992) is an artist working in the field of textile with a MFA from HDK-Valand Steneby. In techniques such as dyeing, weaving, sewing and installation she explore both the material qualities of textile as well as its ability to carry memories and stories. Material relationships and tactile memories are often the starting point for her artistic explorations. Her works highlight the role of textiles as a link between the body and the outside world. Rough terry towels, cotton sheets and ichy wool sweaters are textile landscapes that she like to inhabit. Her work can be experience in exhibitions as well as performative work, where her textile based practice is intertwined with choreography and movement, unfolding new dimensions of her work in the border between textile installation and performance.
Her work has been shown in exhibitions around Sweden, including GIBCA Extended, Galleri Syster (Luleå) Stockholm Craft Week, Craft Days (Gothenburg), at Not Quite (Fengersfors), Dalslands Konstmuseum and KKV-Bohuslän (Gerlesborg). Parallell with her artistic practice she is working as a project manager at Konsthantverkscentrum (Swedish Craft Centre). She lives and works in Bärfendal, Bohuslän.
